gbLinkChecker

gbLinkChecker is an easy-to-use application for validating a list of links. The user just pastes in a list of links and presses the "Check Links" button. Each link is given an icon to visually identify the link as a valid or bad link. Links with no icon has not been tested. A link list may also be read in from a file.

Toolbar

The gbLinkChecker toolbar consist of the following buttons:

  • Open
    Opens a file that contains a list of links
  • Save As
    Save link list to a new file
  • New Link
    Add a single new link to the top of the link list
  • Select All
    Select all links in the list
  • UnSelect All
    UnSelect all links in the list
  • Check Links
    Validate all selected links in the list (ESC to cancel)
  • Remove
    Remove all selected links from the list
  • Copy
    Copy all selected links to the clipboard
  • Append
    Append links from the clipboard to the list
  • Help
    Opens this online Help page.


Context Menu

gbLinkChecker provides the following context menu for the list link.

  • Select All
    Select all items in the link list
  • UnSelect All>
    UnSelect all items in the link list
  • Select All Untested Links
    Select all items in the link list which have no icon
  • Select All Good Links
    Select all items in the link list which have the good icon
  • Select All Bad Links
    Select all items in the link list which have the invalid icon
  • Set Selected Links as Unknown
    Changed status of all selected links to Unknown
  • Set Selected Links as Good
    Changed status of all selected links to Good
  • Set Selected Links as Bad
    Changed status of all selected links to Bad
  • Open Link List Folder
    Open the folder containing the currently opened list file
  • Open Link in Browser
    Open the current selected link item in the defauler browser client
  • Edit URL
    Edit the selected link in a popup text editor
  • Remove Duplicates
    Delete any duplicate links
  • Long Timeout (30s)
    Use 30s timeout (vs 5) when checking links


Operational Notes

To stop checking a list of links, press the ESC key

When links are appended from the clipboard, they are placed at the end of the link list. The list is not automatically sorted to current sort settings. However, the link list is sorted when a new session starts.

There is no Save As feature.

Some possible future settings:

  • Unselect links when validated

gbLinkChecker automatically saves the current link list between sessions. The link list file contains the selection status, validation status, and the link name.

A link file that is to be opened can contain a simple list of links. gbLinkChecker will read the file and convert it to the status/validation/name structure. When saved automatically between sessions, the file will contain the full structure.


Accelerator Keys

These accelerator keys are supported:
  • F1 - Online Help
  • Ctl-A - Select all links
  • Ctl-B - Open selected link in default browser
  • Ctl-C - Select all links
  • Ctl-O - Open file containing links
  • Ctl-U - UnSelect all links
  • Ctl-V - Paste links (append) from the clipboard
  • Ctl-X - Remove selected links from list

Sessions
When gbLinkChecker starts, it restores the previous session content.

INI File
gbLinkChecker application settings are saved in an ANI file, kept in the same folder as the application.
