MCM >> Design - EDA/CAD
Design - EDA/CAD
Design it, build it - the two mantras of the MCM world. As you learned on
Analysis page, there are a wide variety of electronic and mechanical
analyses that can be performed against an MCM design to confirm that the
design meets its requirements. Analysis tools can roughly be categorized
as PCB/MCM EDA, signal integrity, finite element analysis. This page
covers the EDA category.

PCB/MCM Design
You simply won't find a tool set that is exclusively dedicated to MCMs.
First there were PCBs, then there were MCMs. So it was that MCM tools
have evolved out of the PCB tools. In fact, with the blurring of the
two technologies, i.e., MCM-L, common tool sets are preferrable. That
said, there are certainly major EDA vendors whose products have been
specifically adapted to the unique requirements of MCMs.
In the MCM world, there are basically ten (10) vendors whose design
tool suites can be said to cater to the MCM community:
Mentor
Cadence
Intercept
Redac
PADS
Veribest
CADSoft
Tanner
viewLogic
Protel
In addition to this list of 10 EDA vendors/products, the is a whole host
of other vendors whose products were primarily created for use in PCB
design, but which can be applied to MCM design as well. I have created
a second page with the list of these vendors/products.
