Magazines
The technologies and issues which affect the MCM industry are covered throughout a wide variety of magazines. Mostly, these magazines are free - their expenses are covered by the advertisers found within the covers. These magazines provide timely access to key technology advances and industry issues, as well as providing a forum for MCM technologists to discuss their technology developments or to voice their opinions on key MCM topics.

Packaging

Magazines are an excellent way to identify some of the most current issues within an industry. As you would expect from the expanse of technologies needed within the MCM industry, there are likewise a wide variety of magazines which cover those technologies.

EDA Magazines

There are a wide variety of tools and techniquest used to design MCMs. The basic design tools such as AutoCAD are useful for the mechanical design of packages, but specialized tools are need for the interconnect, as well as for simulation of MCMs in their intended environment. The following magazines cover areas with which all MCM technologists much be familiar, including both mechanical and electronic design.

Electronics Magazines

The MCM technologist maintain currency in the field of electronics. New components, operating speeds, architectures, and materials are all areas which affect the strategy in developing an MCM. These magazines provide up-to-date information on all of these areas and more.

PWB Industry

The interconnect and assembly technologies used in MCMs typically derive from the PWB industry. MCMs, particularly military MCMs, often have special design requirements but the expense of developing custom technologies, materials, and assembly processes often forces MCM technologists to look to the commercial PWB industry for existing, low cost technology.

Other

Not all magazines of use to the MCM technologist fall easily into a single category. Here is a list of magazines which I have found to be of significant benefit.

Science News - Science Service, weekly
In my opinion, this is the single best source of information over the widest range of technical topics, 16 weekly pages of condensed technical information
